The purpose of this article was to prove the efficiency of a new soft keyboard layout named X-ASTRO, which was designed taking into account the frequency of usage of each letter in the spanish language and for writing with both thumbs to reduce reaction time. In order to evaluate the performance of the keyboard layout, an experiment was conducted on 15 participants of which 9 were right handed and 6 were left handed. The experiment consisted of three sessions where participants had to complete 4 levels of writing with the X-ASTRO keyboard, first, writing single letters, then words, then phrases presented on the screen and lastly a dictation test. After collecting and analyzing the data from these tests, it is possible to see that the X-ASTRO keyboard layout met its objectives as time and error decreases as the sessions progress, and 5 of 6 of the formulated hypotheses were accepted by the researchers.
